Performance in front of Dalí’s masterpiece By La Sombre Compagnie
Dance
In the heart of the exhibition, in front of The Temptation of St. Anthony–one of Salvador Dalí's most emblematic paintings– Quentin Chaveriat invites you to a performance inspired by Butô, the Japanese dance of darkness.
Between his studies in art history and his passion for theatre and dance, Quentin has travelled several times to Japan to train and show his work.
His performance–imbued with the poetry of slowness, on the verge of trance–echoes the metamorphoses which surrealist artists are so fond of.
“Memory cannot erase certain images. The reasons are mysterious, impalpable; like a barricade suffocated in the distance. The surrealist movement is a compulsive producer of ‘vampire-images’: no one who has seen Salvador Dalí's The Temptation of Saint Anthony will soon forget it. A performer crosses the barrier of the canvas, enters its universe and embodies its protagonists. A grotesque and surreal metamorphosis among the stigmas of temptation.” – Quentin Chaveriat
